A Landmark Achievement in LCON Nursing Education: Celebrating Our Inaugural PhD Graduate

The Loewenberg College of Nursing (LCON) proudly celebrates the inaugural graduate of our PhD program in Nursing Science, Dr. Tracie Augusta. This achievement marks not only a personal milestone for Augusta but also a significant contribution to the advancement of nursing education for LCON.

With a remarkable 30-year journey in the nursing profession, Augusta is one of resilience, determination and continuous academic growth. From being an intern nurse to acquiring certifications in various specialties, including an adult health clinical nurse specialist, acute care nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner, the journey led to a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and now a PhD from LCON where she now serves as a tenured-track professor.

A pivotal point in Augusta’s nursing career came with the decision to open a primary care practice, garnering recognition with a State Award of Excellence from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners for community service. This experience ignited a passion for holistic care, prompting the pursuit of formal research and inquiry.
